For fraj besbes

Fraj Besbes is a memorial website dedicated to Fraj Besbes (1892–1966), the first technical teaching master of weaving in Tunisia and a pioneer in modernizing this centuries-old craft. Trained in Lyon, he spent 25 years teaching at the Émile-Loubet School and 17 years serving the Office des Arts Tunisiens, training several generations of craftsmen and weavers. The site traces his life through a detailed biography, his honorary distinctions (Order of Nichan Iftikhar, Order of the Republic, etc.), and gives access to 10 of his unpublished manuscripts on the history and techniques of Tunisian weaving (cotton, wool, silk). Built by eskills agency.

The challenge

Fraj Besbes (1892-1966) is a major figure in the history of Tunisian weaving, but his legacy — a rich biography, honorary distinctions, unpublished manuscripts — remained scattered and hard to access. The challenge was to build a digital reference site capable of showcasing dense historical content (archives, scanned documents, timeline) while making it enjoyable to browse for both the general public and researchers.

02

Our solution

Creation of an elegant editorial website organized into clear sections (Editorial, Biography, Distinctions, Manuscripts), featuring an interactive timeline of honors and a manuscript viewer allowing original documents to be browsed page by page. A clean layout and careful content hierarchy make it easy to navigate a long, richly sourced biographical text.

03

Results

We wanted a site worthy of our grandfather's legacy: rigorous, elegant, and respectful of his work. The team turned decades of archives and manuscripts into a clear, engaging digital experience accessible to everyone."
